What are black holes made of?
We are excited to announce the release of our new weekly series called the #AskAbby Space and Science Show! Our founder and president Astronaut Abby will be appearing on YouTube bi-weekly on Tuesdays answering questions submitted by you, our community!
In this “magical” episode, please join Astronaut Abby as she answers the question: “What are black holes made of?” Black holes have a been a mysterious and intriguing phenomenon to scientists for many years. The seemingly mystical forces surrounding black holes also tie into people’s fascination with magic. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you will be excited to see Abby visit Wellesley College’s version of ‘Platform 9 ¾‘ and attempt to cast spells featured in JK Rowling’s magical series, Harry Potter! Watch the episode to find out which spells Abby attempts and see if she’s successful!
This episode includes answer to the following questions: What are black holes? How are they formed? Why do they have such strong gravitational forces? What are the different kinds of black holes? What happens if you approach a black hole? What more is there to find out about black holes?
But first, a special thank you to our advisor on black hole physics:
Dr. Raúl Carballo-Rubio
Theoretical Physicist, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), Trieste, Italy
